It is inspired by British seaside and deckchairs! And my love of fabric, in particular blue and white striped cloth which appears in some form in almost every room in my house!  Bird Box Beach Hut by Claire Binns

I wanted to do this idea for many years however I hadn’t come across a project that I can adapt my idea on. The inspiration for the design is my Indo-British heritage so to fuse the two I used the colours from the Indian flag and then replaced the colours of the British flag with them! On the top of the box I have the title of the piece in English and Hindi on tea stained paper. This is to represent the association that the two countries have through the ages- hence ageing the paper with tea – and representing not just the passion of tea in both countries but the trade of tea between Britain and India. Being a Textile artist I have used fabric for Bird Box. The fabric also is very significant to the design of this piece this is because textiles has also played an important part in shaping both countries by trading in textiles. Also like tea there always has and will be that admiration for textiles.  Brit-Ind/Brit-Hind(e) by Sba Shaikh
